three donkeys illustrating children's stories from Ireland's magical town of BallyyahooThe people who live in Ballyyahoo are extraordinary.

Actually they’re not just extraordinary – in fact they are as far from ordinary as it is possible to get!

Because every single one of them – from the very day they were born, has a secret – a very important secret.

THE SECRET OF BALLYYAHOO

The secret is the exact location of Ballyyahoo.

Every Ballyyahooian knows that if they tell the secret to anyone from outside they will be expelled from Ballyyahoo and forced to go and live in Ballyuseless.

Believe me nobody wants to go to Ballyuseless.

There are not too many people living in Ballyyahoo, which is just as well because if you don’t count the fields, the beaches, the bays, the hills and the woods then Ballyyahoo would be a tiny little town indeed.

Now, don’t make the mistake of thinking that because Ballyyahoo is a tiny town there is nothing going on!

People are always making that mistake about small towns everywhere!

But, as anyone who ever lived in a small town in Ireland will tell you, there’s a lot more going on in tiny towns than you could ever imagine.

BIDDY, THE WITCH OF BALLYYAHOO

drawing of a kindly witch illustrating a page on children's stories from Ireland's BallyyahooIn Ballyyahoo there’s Biddy. At first glance she seems to be quite an ordinary woman.

Like everyone else she does a bit of shopping in Kelly’s shop.

She goes to Zumba dancing every week and loves having a good old chin-wag with Maggie-many-cats on her way home.

That’s why it’s hard to imagine why people say that Biddy has an another life and that she just might be The Witch of Ballyyahoo

MAGGIE-MANY-CATS

If you haven’t already guessed she is a woman with a house full of cats.

But, Maggie’s cats aren’t ordinary cats and Maggie’s not just an ordinary crazy-cat-lady.

Maggie’s cats can all play a musical instrument and when Maggie’s conducting them with her wooden spoons you can hear this amazing cat-orchestra for miles.

If you like cats and if you especially like magic cats, then you will love reading her story. Click here to read about Maggie Many Cats.

GERRY AND KEVIN

cartoon of boy from the story Bonkers in BallyyahooGerry and Kevin think witches are pretty cool. They are two cousins and their mothers are sisters.

Gerry spends a lot of time boring himself bonkers by spending most of his days swinging on a gate.

While Kevin drives his mother bonkers by spending his free time thinking up lots of things he shouldn’t do!

Kevin is not the most popular boy in Ballyyahoo. It’s not that he’s a bad boy really – just a very bored boy.

Boredom brings trouble to Ballyyahoo and you can read about that trouble in Bonkers in Ballyyahoo.

There are lots more Ballyyahooians to get to know and lots more stories. So come back often and you’ll soon get to know them all.
