Biddy’s Duck and Drake

duck and drake Indian Runners This duck and drake are the latest new arrivals in Ballyyahoo.

These ducks are a breed called Indian Runners and they belong to Biddy.

Biddy a very special woman who is sometimes known as The Witch of Ballyyahoo.

Biddy loves magic but she always says there’s nothing as magical as the magic of nature so she was very excited when her duck and drake arrived.

Biddy calls her new ducks Henry and Hattie.

In this photo on the right, Hattie is on the left while Henry is on the right.

A male duck is called a drake and he is brown with a dark head while the female is pure white.

Indian Runners are known to lay eggs like clockwork and Biddy enjoys a fresh egg for breakfast every day.

Biddy also keeps hens but they often stop laying in cold weather.

Ducks don’t mind the cold as much as hens so when Biddy’s hens stop laying the ducks take over.

Biddy hopes she will never go short of eggs again.

Indian Runners are very lively and they love nothing more than a good run round Biddy’s garden, followed by a good old splash in the pond.

The ducks like to stand upright and some say they look like penguins.

White Indian Runner duck Biddy loves to see Henry and Hattie running around.

She is hoping that some time in the future Hattie will begin to hatch some of her eggs.

If that happens we might just see some more little ducklings arriving in Ballyyahoo.

So don’t forget to come back and visit Ballyyahoo soon and see if Biddy’s wish comes true.
