CHRISTMAS EVE IN BALLYYAHOO
Ballyyahoo is one of the best places in Ireland to be at Christmas.
There is a big party on Christmas Eve and absolutely everyone in Ballyyahoo goes along.
The Ballyyahooians put great big long tables along the main street and they all bring lots of home-made food so that the table is completely covered in lots of tasty goodies for everyone to eat.
NO CRIME AT CHRISTMAS
Christmas is actually the only day of the year that Sergeant Sid, who has an enormous sweet-tooth has enough sweets to eat.
That’s great news for Ballyyahoo because it’s also the one day of the year Sergeant Sid doesn’t make up any silly new laws – like not having headlights on a donkey, or wearing odd socks.
No, Christmas is the one time he doesn’t do any strange things – well, not too many anyway.
Because Ballyyahoo is so close to forests and woods they always have a huge Christmas tree with lights you can see for miles.
And there are presents for everyone underneath it.
After they’ve finished eating Maggie-many-cats starts up the music and soon the whole of Ballyyahoo is rocking.
Ballyyahooians love music and love dancing and soon they are all dancing up and down the length of the tables and everyone is having a fantastic time.

CHRISTMAS DAY IN BALLYYAHOO
Christmas morning is spent opening presents, eating their favourite breakfast which is usually freshly laid eggs and homemade bread with raspberry or blackberry jam.
If they were dancing on Christmas Eve they always have a side dish of Ballyyahoo’s greenest cabbage for energy so they can dance on Christmas night as well.
Ballyyahooians know that some people have no homes at all and that they are very lucky to have nice warm homes, good food to eat, and presents.
So, to raise money for homeless people, every Ballyyahooian who can swim, takes a brisk walk down the lane to the Halfamoon beach after Christmas breakfast.
No matter how cold it is they all get into their swimming costumes and do a sponsored swim the full length of the beach, and back again.
While they’re swimming, all those who couldn’t do the swim gather on the pier and set up tables with mince-pies and big frothing mugs of creamy hot chocolate.
Once the swim is over Maggie-many-cats gets the music going again.
The Ballyyahooians all dance together in a big ring until they’re warm enough and happy enough to walk back up the lane to their homes.
Once they get home they spend the rest of the Christmas day, exchanging more presents and enjoying their Christmas dinner.
