Bonkers in Ballyyahoo is a funny story that takes place in Ireland’s secret town of Ballyyahoo.
Ballyyahoo is a magical place that hides between the mountains and the sea, somewhere between County Galway and County Clare.
The only people who know exactly where Ballyyahoo is are the people who live there.
They are a very lively bunch and there’s always lots of craic in Ballyyahoo.
However, the Ballyyahooians are notoriously shy with strangers.
So they buried all the signposts somewhere in the bog of Ballyyahoo and then forgot all about them!
There are only about fifty people living in Ballyyahoo so there isn’t a whole lot there.
But, there is a petrol station/shop, a pub, a church, a rusty old post-box, a few farms, loads and loads of horses, cows, sheep, donkeys and other many other animals.
There are also lots of kids, including two very bored boys.
BORED BEING BORED
The two bored boys are called Gerry Mac and Kevin.
They are cousins and their mums are two sisters.
Gerry Mac and Kevin are so bored, they get bored being bored.
Gerry doesn’t really mind being bored. He passes his time by swinging on his gate and watching the world go by.
This drives his mother bonkers and she wants him to go and be active.
She wants Gerry to have hobbies and interests like the other kids in Ballyyahoo but Gerry’s too bored to move.
Kevin is bored as well but unlike Gerry, he’s got plenty of things to do.
Trouble is, the only thing Kevin likes to do is drive the whole town bonkers!
You see if Kevin’s not being bad, he get bored and being bored drives Kevin bonkers.
So, as you can imagine, Kevin likes to be bad quite a lot.
BADDER THAN BAD
Kevin used to do ordinary bad things, like letting a whole army of spiders loose in the local pub and putting cockroaches on the bread counter in the shop.
But not any more, Kevin’s mum got him a computer – big mistake.
Kevin’s ideas have got bigger and badder and if you read this story you’ll find out just how bad Kevin can be.
