But, at certain times of the year you have to look very carefully.

If you don’t look carefully you can easily miss them.

Some of the wild flowers are tiny and are easy to miss as they hide among the other plants and grass.

Among the first wild flowers to appear in spring are the primroses.

primroses coming into bloom - nature and stories for childrenPrimroses are very easy to find.

They tend to grow wild along the base of the hedgerows.

The primroses in this picture are quite hidden in the grass.

Most Ballyyahooians also have these delicate little wild flowers growing in their gardens.

Primroses also grow in the woodlands. If you can you should try and visit your local woodlands as often as you can.

If you visit the woodlands you will see all sorts of wonderful wildlife. The woodlands in Ballyyahoo are called the Witchy Woods.

There’s always something to see at the woodlands and different things appear at different times of the year.

So, if you visit regularly, you will see all sorts of amazing creatures, plants and of course, lots of wild flowers.

Biddy, the witch of Ballyyahoo, is a real nature lover.

Biddy is always the first to spot the cowslips.

Not just because she is a witch, but because she always keeps her eyes wide open when she’s walking.

Cowslips are a lovely pale yellow colour and can be seen growing in the fields and meadows.

It’s always great fun to discover wildlife and plants when you are walking in nature but always remember to leave no trace.
