Cows Cause Traffic Jam In Ballyyahoo

group-of-cows

If you ever come to Ballyyahoo the first thing you will probably notice is that there are lots and lots of cows.  In fact there are probably more cows than people. I say probably because I haven’t actually counted them, because:

A. Some of them look very alike and unless they kept very still I’d probably count one twice.

calf-sticks-tongue-outB. This time of year they have lots of calves, like this one here who likes sticking her tongue out and to be honest, by the time I’d finished counting them there would probably be new ones coming along.

two-calvesC. Cows in Ballyyahoo move from field to meadow and meadow to field every day so they would be very hard to find sometimes.

By the way when I say they move from field to meadow I don’t mean they go across the field and into the meadow or vice versa.

cows walking followed by farmerNo, what happens is the farmer who owns them opens the gate and lets them out on to the lane, where they walk along to the next gate.

cows-walking-up-laneSometimes they are quite quick and walk straight there but other times they like to  take their own time and I don’t know if you ever heard of cow-time but it’s much slower than human time.

cows-walkingA bunch of cows walking slowly up the narrow lane at Ballyyahoo can take up a lot of space and sometimes they even cause a traffic jam like the one you can see above.

There was a traffic jam on Ballyyahoo lane the other day and it’s a good job Sergeant Sid didn’t hear about it or else he would have been there handcuffing the farmers and charging them two bars of chocolate and a packet of toffee crunches to get free, like he did the last time the cows caused a traffic jam in Ballyyahoo – even the cows were shocked.

That’s why farmer Tom called Farmer John for help and they both got behind the cows and started whooshing them up the lane as fast as they could.  Just in time too!
