Stories About Cats

book cover of Maggie Many Cats - childrens storiesIf you love stories about cats you are in the right place.

I wrote Maggie-Many-Cats And The Cat That Flew In The Window to help support the desperate and destitute cats of Ireland.

GREYSTONES KITTY HOSTEL

My daughter, Louise Cardiff, her team of volunteers, run a TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) charity.

The charity is called Greystones Kitty Hostel.

This small but dedicated team help, rescue and neuter Ireland’s growing number of distressed, abandoned and feral cats.

Maggie-many-cats is one of the characters from my series of stories about the magical town of Ballyyahoo.

Ballyyahoo is a secret town hidden somewhere along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.

As you might have guessed Maggie’s home is not filled with dogs.

All the cats play musical instruments so Maggie has her own special cat-orchestra.

Naturally, when I decided to write stories about cats, Maggie was the ideal character.

This is a story that’s both for cats and about cats.

ABANDONED CATS

The problem of abandoned cats has been getting worse since Ireland’s recession.

Unfortunately, more people have been dumping their unneutered cats.

OUT OF CONTROL

With cats having several litters per year the numbers have quickly gone out of control.

The process of TNR isn’t easy.

Each cat has to be trapped and brought to the vet for the neutering procedure.

Following this, they are collected from the surgery.

They are then cared for until they recover.

When they are recovered they are returned to their homes.

After they are freed the cats are fed and monitored into the future to safeguard their health and welfare.

COSTS

This all costs money and funds must be raised to pay the vet’s fees, food, medication and shelter.

Volunteers raise the funds necessary to meet the costs involved.

It isn’t easy to raise funds for animals in recession Ireland.

Maggie-Many-Cats And The Cat That Flew In The Window was written as a way of raising money.

Although the Ballyyahoo series is for children Maggie-Many-Cats And The Cat That Flew In The Window is a funny story that all the family can share and enjoy.

All profits from the sale of the book go towards paying vet fees and other ongoing costs involved in the care of the cats.

The volunteers involved in TNR are an extremely dedicated and hardworking group of people.

Fundraising is one of their biggest problems.

They raise funds in various ways such as auctions, sponsored walks, craft and bakery sales etc.

CAN’T KNIT – CAN’T SEW

I wanted to help but since I am not very good at baking or handicrafts I

decided to do what I could do and write stories about cats.
