9. List Of Suspects

Hi there, I’m Lucy. If you’ve visited Witch-watch before, you will already know that I am on the hunt for the witch of Ballyyahoo.

I’ve been writing my witch stories for a while so if this is your first time visiting this site you would be better off starting reading here – from the beginning of witch-watch.

THE STORY SO FAR…

I suspect that my neighbour, Biddy, could be a witch and I’ve been following her, trying to find evidence that she is a witch. However something terrible happened before I could find out any more.

I was looking after a rabbit, called the Raggy-Rabbit, while its owner Miss Parrot was away, when all of a sudden the Raggy-Rabbit disappeared. I’ve looked everywhere I could think of but there hasn’t been a single sighting.

I’ve made a list of the main suspects so far:

1..THE-FAR-AWAY-FOX

2.THE RAGGY RABBIT’S COUNTRY COUSINS

3.BIDDY-THE-MAYBE-WITCH

SUSPECT 1. THE-FAR-AWAY-FOX

foxLast week I saw a fox. The fox in question wasn’t alone, it had cubs. I didn’t get very close because a fox is a fox and when a fox has cubs they don’t hang around to answer questions. This fox stayed as far away as she could and that’s the reason why I decided to name her the Far-Away Fox.

Foxes get blamed for a lot of things but I was sure this fox hadn’t taken the Raggy rabbit because Miss Parrot told me that the rabbit hutch and the rabbit run were built by old Paddy Plant.

Anyone who knows Paddy Plant will tell you that he is very careful about his work and that there is no way any fox would get past him. At least not since that time in 1969 when a fox got three of his hens.

Still, I want to be a good detective and so I had to chase after every lead and leave no stone unturned in my investigation. I also have to double-check everything – twice!

THE INVESTIGATION

So I returned to the scene the very next day and I carried out another, very careful, inspection of the scene. I brought a magnifying glass, a pen, and a notebook with me and I searched for the following evidence.

  • Holes in fence
  • Holes in the ground.
  • Signs of burrowing or digging.
  • Torn or cut wire.
  • Bits of rabbit fluff strewn around the area.
  • Blood.
  • Guts.
  • Gory or slimy stuff that I don’t know the name of.

EVIDENCE

I searched every single place around the hutch, inside the hutch, inside the run, around the run and all around Miss Parrot’s garden and I didn’t find any evidence whatsoever. Not a drop of blood, not a tiny scratch in the fence, not even a bit of fluff – nothing whatsoever.

Next week I am going to investigate whether it was my second suspect, the Raggy Rabbit’s Country Cousins. Click here to find out.
