Lucy’s Stories

bent-tree-on-the-Wild-Atlantic-WayI’m Lucy and I live in Ballyyahoo, which is a magic little town hidden away in a secret place on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.

I like to write stories about what’s going on in Ballyyahoo.

Some kids who live here think nothing ever happens, but that’s because they stay inside their houses all the time, watching telly and playing on their tablets.

They never go outside.

Apart from the day I found a little bird on my window, outside is where the adventure is and I like adventure.

STORIES ABOUT ADVENTURE IN BALLYYAHOO

One of the best adventures I’ve had is my search for the truth about The Witch Of Ballyyahoo and I write lots of stories about that here on Witch-Watch.

But it’s not just witches I’m interested in – there’s always something happening here, especially if you like animals and you like nature like I do.

STORIES ABOUT THE WITCHY WOODS

I also love going for walks in the Witchy Woods, but only when it’s bright. Not that I’m scared or anything, no way!

Anyway there are no witches, ghosts or banshees in the Witchy Woods. My mother says that’s just a rumour spread by eejits and gobdaws and we’ve got a few of them in Ballyyahoo.

No, the  reason I only visit the Witchy Woods in daylight is that  you can see everything when it’s bright and there is lots to see.

One time when I crossed a field to get to the woods, I saw a couple of  wild hares bounding across a field and another time I saw some deer.

There are lots of animals in Ballyyahoo and most of them are cows. If you want to see what happened when they caused a traffic jam you can click here.

But we don’t just have cows. We also have horses and donkeys. You can see Daffo, my favourite donkey here.

We have wild animals too, like deer, rabbits and lots of smaller creatures and insects like frogs and butterflies.  I love butterflies and here in Ballyyahoo we have loads of them in the summer time because nobody in Ballyyahoo uses poisonous chemicals in their gardens, or in the fields, so the air is really fresh and sweet with the smell of flowers. That way all our wildlife can thrive.

I love the way  when butterflies land on one of their favourite plants like mint, milkweed or buddleja they close their wings and stay completely still.

butterfly-on-grassIf you are really quiet the butterflies will stay still like that for hours.

But if they sense you are there, or if you make a sudden move they will open their wings and flutter away to find another plant or flower where they will settle themselves down quietly so they can enjoy the peace and quiet.

That’s one of the important things you need to know about nature, if you are peaceful, quiet and move slowly, you will get to see loads of exciting creatures , but if you are running around and are being noisy you will just frighten all the creatures away.

So next time you are in the countryside, or local park be quiet, be careful, and you never know what you’ll see.

Love Lucy.

P.S. If you have a story about something that happened while you were out and about, you can tell me below in the comments box. I’d love to hear from you.
